WWER-1000 (V-428) has been developed in accordance with the Intergovernmental Agreement on Cooperation with the People’s Republic of China. Main equipment of the reactor plant is based on V-392 design. Experience in modernization of operating WWER-1000 and IAEA Guidelines for operating WWER-1000 safety enhancement have been taken into account in the design.
The reactor plant meets the requirements of up-to-date regulatory and engineering documentation. Unlike V-392 design and in accordance with the Customer’s requirements enhancement of reliability, safety and economic characteristics of the reactor plant is achieved without application of additional passive safety systems provided in V-392 design, only by means of:
- extension of the range of design conditions in comparison with the reference Unit (V-320 design) and consideration of beyond design basis accidents in the design;
- application of new advanced I&C systems and engineered safety features for beyond design basis accident management.
- V-428 reactor plant is designed to withstand seismic load under operating basis earthquake of magnitude 7 according to MSK 64 scale and safe shutdown earthquake of magnitude 8 according to MSK 64 scale.
