On March 3-7 2013, the 6th International Symposium on Supercritical Water-cooled Reactors (ISSCWR-6) was held in Shenzhen, China
More than 100 experts from EU, Canada, China, Japan and Russia participated in the Symposium. The most participants were from China as a receiving party which has a national program on supercritical water-cooled reactor development. The papers were grouped in nine sessions: materials and water chemistry; reactor and core designing; fuel; thermal hydraulic analyses; neutron physics; thermal hydraulic experiments; safety analyses; control and stability; computational fluid dynamics analyses (CFD).
The Symposium showed very high activity in supercritical water-cooled reactor development in China and Canada, along with that in addition to university research programs for reactor concept development, the organizations involved in NPP designing and operation were engaged: AECL (Canada), NPIC (China) and CGNPC (China).
The concept design of European supercritical water-cooled reactor – HPLWR- is finalized and published as a monograph (T.Schulenberg HPLWR.pdf), R&D are conducted in different research institutes and universities. Some experimental and calculating research results were presented at the Symposium, particularly on reactor fuel justification in Czech experimental LWR reactor (Rzez).
Mr. A. Churkin and Mr. V. Makhin from OKB “GIDROPRESS” and Mr. A. Glebov from RF SSC IPPE represented Russia at the Symposium.
