On September 25, 2020, as as part of the celebrations of the 75th anniversary of the nuclear industry, a solemn ceremony of laying flowers was held at the grave of the first Director of OKB "GIDROPRESS", winner of the Lenin and Stalin prizes, Boris M. Sholkovich, who headed OKB "GIDROPRESS" since its foundation in 1946 till 1953. The team of OKB GIDROPRESS headed by B.M. Sholkovich implemented a number of projects significant for the country. They involved elaboration of special research reactors, heat exchange equipment for production reactors and the equipment for the world's first nuclear power plant in Obninsk. B.M. Sholkovich was one of the Company founders and a trailblazer in elaborating the liquid metal-cooled NSSS for submarines. The event was attended by representatives of the company's management, employees, veterans and relatives of B.M. Sholkovich. "OKB GIDROPRESS was set up simultaneously with the industry and there were no certified engineers for nuclear industry available at that time. The engineering and organizational talent of B. M. Sholkovich as a manager helped him to find the personnel he needed and create a team capable of coping with the challenge of the nuclear plant design development. Unique projects were successfully implemented within an overwhelmingly short time lag, among which the activities on NSSS with liquid metal coolant are especially important”, said Sergey Sorokin, Deputy Head of Scientific and Technical Department. On behalf of the relatives Zinaida Sholkovich, a representative of the dynasty, thanked the management and the staff of OKB GIDROPRESS for their effort on commemorating B.M. Sholkovich, preserving the professional heritage and traditions, laid down by the first director and also wished the company's team further progress and success in new project implementation.
