The specialists of OKB “GIDROPRESS” – Director-General Designer Sergey Ryzhov, Deputy Director, Chief Designer Gennady Banyuk, Chief Designer, Head of division Nikolay Trunov – who were making a business trip to Petrozavodsk, are listed among the passengers killed during an air crash of a "Rusaero" air liner, which was performing a flight Moscow-Petrozavodsk on Tuesday night, June 21
The delegation was flying to Petrozavodsk to take part in a conference, which was to take place at ZAO "Petrozavodskmash" on 21.06.2011. The aim of the meeting was to discuss issues connected with placing of orders for manufacturing NPP equipment using OKB “GIDROPRESS” designs.
Sergey Ryzhov was born on November 18, 1959. He came to OKB “GIDROPRESS” in 1982 after graduation from Bauman Higher Technical School. His working career developed from an engineer of the design-and-calculation department to the Director-General Designer of a leading organization in nuclear engineering of the Russian Federation.
As an equipment designer Mr. Ryzhov took part in commissioning activities at Unit 1 of South-Ukrainian NPP, Unit 1 of Kalinin NPP, Unit 5 of Kozloduy NPP. The reactor equipment designed with his direct assistance served as a basis for the design subsequently used in the latest versions of VVER-1000 reactor plants, including foreign export designs (Tianwan NPP in China, “Bushehr” NPP in Iran, “Kudankulam” NPP in India).
From 1998 till 2007 Mr. Ryzhov headed the division on VVER reactor plants. Complete technical designs of reactor plants V-428, V-446, and V-412 for NPPs in China, Iran, and India were developed under his supervision and with participation of other divisions of OKB “GIDROPRESS” and subcontracting organizations working on the instructions of the division. Documentation was prepared on these three designs for construction licensing (preliminary safety substantiation reports with a set of substantiating documentation). By now the Customer’s Tianwan NPP has been brought to design power and put in commission. At the same time work on updating first generation V-440 RP and on substantiation of its life time extension above the time established in the initial design was carried out in the division directed by Mr.Ryzhov. As a result of this work Units 3 and 4 of Novovoronezh NPP, as well as Units 1 and 2 of Kola NPP obtained a license of GAN RF permitting their operation beyond design life time. Work on completion and preparation for commissioning of NPP Units with VVER-1000, which was stalled off at the beginning of the 90’s, was restarted in the division headed by Mr.Ryzhov in 2000. Unit 1 of Volgodonsk NPP and Unit 3 of Kalinin NPP were commissioned as a result of this work.
Mr.Ryzhov made a great contribution to successful winning of an international tender for construction of “Belene” NPP in Bulgaria by personal participation and direction, which resulted in signing an agreement in 2006.
Becoming Director General of OKB “GIDROPRESS” in 2007 Mr.Ryzhov organized work on fulfillment of obligations taken by the organization on the Federal target program “Development of the nuclear power-industrial complex in Russia for 2007-2010, and potentially till 2015”, under which OKB “GIDROPRESS” as Designer General developed VVER-1200 reactor plants for a series of NPP Units, a pilot SVBR-100 Unit (lead-bismuth “fast” reactor), and steam generators for the BN-800 Unit.
Owing to his ambitious character, professionalism, and responsibility for the people he headed Mr.Ryzhov was able to form conditions under which OKB “GIDROPRESS” maintained its positions in the new economic situation connected with its transformation into a joint-stock company, and also overcame the negative crisis phenomena of the beginning of 2009 fully maintaining social policy of the organization. To date OKB “GIDROPRESS”, headed by Mr.Ryzhov, is an organization which keeps and develops technologies of designing reactor plants and equipment, which is staffed with highly-qualified personnel and which implements modern large-scale projects. Mr.Ryzhov was the author of a number of inventions. In 2000 he was awarded Academician Dolezhal Prize of Minatom RF for work on development and introduction of gaskets based on “expanded” graphite.
In 2004 Mr. Ryzhov was awarded the title of “Honoured designer of the Russian Federation” for his achievements in designing.
For his achievements in the professional and social activities and for his great contribution to the development of nuclear engineering Mr.Ryzhov was awarded a breastplate “Academician I.V. Kurchatov” of 1st and 2nd degrees, an agency-level order of labour “Veteran of nuclear engineering and industry”, a badge of the Governor of the Moscow region “For labour and diligence”, an “Order of Merit for the city of Podolsk” of 1st degree, honoured diplomas, letters of gratitude.
Gennady Banuyk was born on January, 01, 1946 G. Banyuk graduated from Moscow Engineering Physics Institute as a researcher in the field of the physics of metals and came to work for OKB GIDROPRESS. Having started as an engineer he finally became the Deputy Designer General, responsible for design interface. In 2002 G.Banyuk was awarded a PhD degree.
Dr.Banyuk devoted his activities to the elaboration and introduction of analytical, theoretical, experimental and designer decisions into the practice of reactor building to ensure the enhancement of safety and reliability of VVER-type reactors for nuclear power plants.
To ensure NPP safety and reliability is the top priority for the creators of reactors and the wide circle of research and designer effort of G.Banyuk greatly contributed to solving this challenge. He was responsible for and participated in the elaboration of the regulatory documents dealing with the parameters of reactor primary and secondary water chemistry, both for the operating reactors and newly created ones, elaborated the procedures for and participated in reactor plant equipment decontamination, worked on finding out the causes of steam generator steam header failures in the area of flange joints and phase separation. He also investigated the causes of the corrosion-induced cracking of the cold collectors in PGV-1000 steam generators.
G.Banuyk participated in the experiments that showed a possibility of corrosion-induced cracking of pearlitic steels in the secondary-side water at low-rate deformation, which accounts for the failure mechanism of the cold collectors. The investigation findings made it possible to introduce a complex of activities to ensure a reliable operation of steam generators within their service life. He participated in revealing of the causes of pitting-corrosion in the cladding-free vessels of VVER-440 reactors at outage to make it possible to develop and introduce the compensatory measures, in the development of the process of the chemical washing of the steam generators for VVER-440 and VVER-1000 and took part in the chemical washings at the NPPs. His research in the field of material science served to extend the service life of equipment and pipelines of VVER-440 and VVER-1000 reactor plants.
The results of the research and development activities G.F.Banuyk participated in are widely used at the operating and newly created NPPs at the stages of equipment designing, manufacturing, commissioning and operation support. G.F.Banuyk was the author of more than 30 articles and a number of inventions.
G.F.Banyuk was an efficient manager and was capable of arranging the activities to make it possible to implement the commitments of the enterprise under the State orders and contract obligations for the NPPs in Iran, China and India. He was awarded the State Order of Honour, a Moscow 850-year jubilee medal, a medal for achievements in nuclear industry and a Grade II medal for his contribution to the development of the city, a Diploma of the Nuclear Industry Ministry of the Russian Federation. His name is recorded in the Honour book of the enterprise.
Nikolay Trunov was born on April, 22, 1959. Dr. N. Trunov has been working for OKB “GIDROPRESS” since 1982 after graduation from Moscow Power Institute and worked his way from the ordinary engineer to Chief Designer – Head of division.
During the time period of his work at the organization a large complex of activities has been performed by himself and under his leadership, the activities were devoted to solution of the important scientific problem of improving the operational reliability and safety of steam generators for NPP with VVER reactors being one of the critical problems governing safety of NPP, as a whole, and of extending their service life. Results of these activities found their use in modernization and extension of service life of steam generators at the existing NPPs, were implemented into industry and lead to improvement of reliability and efficiency of the steam generators at NPP with VVER reactors operated both in our country, and abroad.
N. Trunov finished the post-graduate course in MPI by correspondence and in 1990 he defended a thesis for a candidate’s degree.
Since 2002 Dr. N. Trunov has been at the head of the division of steam generators, heat-mechanical equipment for VVER, BN reactor plants and perspective plants.
In this position he proved to be the initiative, responsible leader thinking to perspective and made every effort to stimulate the creative work of specialists, and paid high attention to the work with the young specialists engaged in innovative studies using the up-to-date methods of designing. Under his leadership and direct participation the detailed projects were developed for the steam generators with extended service life PGV-1000MK, the steam generator PGV-1500 for NPP of new generation with VVER-1500, the steam generator PGV-1000MKП and other heat exchanging equipment for AES-2006, documentation on the steam generator H-272 for NPP with BN-800 reactor, the work has been performed on manufacturing, mounting and preoperational work for the steam generators and other equipment for Russian and foreign NPPs, including “Bushehr” NPP in Iran.
The regular stage in large scientific activities of N. Trunov was the defence of a thesis for a doctor’s degree in 2004 wherein the requirements were formulated for new designs of seam generators and the recommendations were given on improvement of operational reliability of the tube bundle and steam generator, as a whole, the procedures were developed for the calculation of heat and mass transfer and distribution of impurities within the steam generator volume and the theoretical justification and optimization was given for the tube bundle arrangement that enabled to extend the service life of steam generators and NPP from 30 to 50 years and to get a high economic benefit.
Dr. N. Trunov was one of the leading specialists in our country on the steam generators and heat exchanging equipment for NPP, the recognized authority in this field not only in our country but also abroad. Since 2004 he has been the permanent leader of the International Seminar on Horizontal Steam Generators held in our country.
Dr. N. Trunov had more than 140 published works including books on the steam generators for VVER NPPs: “Hydrodynamic and heat-chemical processes in steam generators of VVER NPP” and “Steam generators of VVER reactor plants for nuclear power installations”, was the author of more than 30 inventions. Dr. N. Trunov was the representative of our organization and our country repeatedly at various interdepartmental meetings, Russian and International seminars, symposiums and conferences, including France, Austria, Finland, Croatia, Czechiǎ, Bulgaria, P.R.China, Ukraine, and was drawn by IAEA as an expert.
For the successful labour and social activities Dr. N. Trunov was awarded with certificates of honour. In 2004 Dr. N. Trunov was awarded the title of “Best scientist of 2004” by the Head of Podolsk. In 2005 Dr. N. Trunov was awarded the title of “Honoured Designer of Russian Federation”.
In 2009 Dr. N. Trunov was awarded with the departmental medal “Academician Kurchatov” of 3 degree for the high contribution to development of nuclear power engineering, long-term honest labour and in connection with his 50-anniversary.
In 2010 Dr. N. Trunov was awarded with the departmental medal “Academician Kurchatov” of 4 degree for the high personal contribution to commissioning of “Bushehr” NPP.
